Annie's and Laydz Manukan and Seafood Restaurant in Oton, Iloilo City, offers a satisfying blend of great food, a cozy atmosphere, and a convenient location for diners looking for delicious grilled dishes and fresh seafood. With its spacious dining area and inviting ambiance, it provides a comfortable place to enjoy a meal with family and friends.
This restaurant follows a "turo-turo" style of ordering, where diners go to the display case and point to the dishes they’d like to order. This method allows customers to survey the entire menu at a glance, making it easier to choose what looks most appetizing. Once the selections are made, the cook expertly finishes each dish with a flavorful sauce or completes the grilling process for par-cooked meats, ensuring every plate is served fresh and delicious.
Seafood lovers will be thrilled to know that they serve oysters, among other fresh offerings. The restaurant specializes in grilled chicken and a variety of seafood dishes, making it a great spot for those who crave smoky, well-seasoned flavors. One highly recommended dish is the grilled pantat (catfish), which arrives straight from the grill, perfectly cooked with a satisfying texture and rich taste. They also serve inasal na manok (grilled chicken) and other grilled chicken parts, such as liver and gizzard, providing even more options for diners to enjoy.
The only downside to the meal was the shrimp. It was prepared in the traditional style known as "linusgos nga pasayan" in Ilonggo or "hilabos na hipon" in Tagalog, where the shrimp is simply salted and steamed. Sometimes, a touch of Sprite or 7-Up is added for a subtle sweetness - (yeah, cooking with soft drinks is very much a thing in these parts). Unfortunately, the shrimp served during the visit was slightly tough and dry, likely due to overcooking.
Despite this minor drawback, the overall dining experience was enjoyable. With ample parking space, a convenient location, and a satisfying selection of freshly cooked dishes, Annies and Laydz Manukan and Seafood Restaurant is a place worth revisiting. Next time, exploring more of their menu could lead to even more delightful discoveries.
