Bugoy's Seafood Restaurant, located on Coastal Road, Jaro, Iloilo City, is a popular restaurant known for its refreshing seaside ambiance and a great menu that is a good representation of what the Iloilo food scene has to offer. The spectacular view overlooking Guimaras Island is definitely one of the highlights of the area, so if you do come and visit, be sure to ask to be seated at the dining area situated on top of the water. The floor is made from bamboo slats, so it might look a bit intimidating to walk on, but you will be thankful for the fresh ocean breeze and the good view, which is the perfect backdrop for savoring Ilonggo cuisine.
Their menu is extensive, featuring all the local classics you could hope for. Among the must-tries are the talaba (oysters), which can be prepared as baked with garlic-butter and cheese on top or just plain steamed, lechon kawali (deep fried pork with crispy skin), and grilled managat fish (mangrove red snapper) - all personal favorites. However, the star of the show is undoubtedly their kansi, which is a soupy beef dish (think of it as a cross between bulalo and sinigang). Pro tip: Even if you don't order the kansi, politely request a portion of the flavorful broth as your soup starter. They would oftentimes gladly serve it to you free of charge. It has yet to disappoint!
Service at Bugoy's is generally quick and efficient, but during peak hours, especially lunch and dinner times on weekends, the place might feel a bit understaffed. Despite this, the team works hard to ensure customers are served promptly. If you're visiting during these busy times, be prepared for some crowding, but the experience is well worth it.
Parking is convenient, with ample space in an adjacent lot. However, during busier times, you might need to park along the roadside. Additionally, the location can be a bit tricky if you don't have your own vehicle, as public transport does not pass through the area. Taxis or ride-hailing services like Grab are excellent options, and the accommodating staff can even help you book a ride going back home if needed.
Overall, Bugoy's Seafood Restaurant is a fantastic destination for anyone looking to indulge in authentic Ilonggo flavors while enjoying a stunning coastal view. Just remember to arrive early or outside peak hours to fully appreciate the charm of this culinary haven.
