[Review] Seoul Samgyupsal: A Taste of South Korea in Iloilo City

Tucked away in a cozy corner of SM City Iloilo, Seoul Samgyupsal offers diners a flavorful escape to South Korea without leaving the Philippines. This Korean barbecue spot has quickly earned a loyal following among locals and visitors alike, thanks to its inviting ambiance, authentic flavors, and attentive service.

From the moment you step inside, you're welcomed by the comforting sizzle of meat on tabletop grills and the cheerful hum of satisfied diners. The interiors strike a balance between clean contemporary design and subtle Korean accents, creating a space that feels both modern and homey.

The centerpiece of the experience is, of course, the samgyupsal: grilled pork belly served fresh and marinated to perfection. Guests grill the meat themselves at the table, adding a fun and interactive twist to the meal. Each bite is elevated by a generous spread of banchan (side dishes), including fresh lettuce, kimchi, pickled vegetables, an assortment of dipping sauces, and my personal standout favorite: tteokbokki, the chewy rice cakes simmered in spicy-sweet sauce.

One thoughtful touch is the tabletop grills fitted with individual exhaust pipes, which efficiently draw away smoke. This setup minimizes the lingering scent of grilled meat on clothes, a common concern with Korean barbecue, and enhances the dining experience.

Seoul Samgyupsal also benefits from its prime location within SM City Iloilo, drawing steady foot traffic, especially on weekends. The staff are notably friendly and patient, taking time to explain the available meats and side dishes to newcomers.

In terms of pricing, Seoul Samgyupsal sits comfortably in the mid-range, not the cheapest, but certainly fair given the quality of food and ambiance. It’s a satisfying experience overall. While it may not dethrone my personal go-to samgyupsal spot in Iloilo City, Seoul Samgyupsal is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and craving a Korean barbecue fix.
